According to Mlive, Jimmy starts tonight against Vancouver. I'm fine with that as if a lineup get you a win yesterday, give em a shot at getting you a win today!

Looks like we have a new #1 goalie, but I agree with Pierre that hopefully Howard still thinks he a back up. He is a much better goaltender as a backup.

No lineup changes...going with those got us our last win.

I also agree on not telling Jimmy anything...no need for complacency to rear its ugly head Smiley

This should push Petr to compete harder if he wants the starting role bit 3 starts in a row for Howard? Looks like he lost it already.

Vancouver has been stuggling...lets keep it that way but not play down

I originally thought it would be Petr, but I think after losing 5 in a row going with the last winning goaler in this situation is correct.

Goalies can be such fickle players. About 2 weeks ago I was gushing (I seldom gush - probably Rye induced) - over Petr's game against someone when we were in the middle of our "winning" streak. Next few games he looks average. I really didn't think the D was much better one night than the next - he just didn't seem to be as sharp.

It would be really interesting to see what Price could do on this team. He absolutely carried Montreal up until he got hurt - and since afterwards. Given our defense, how much of a difference would he make ? Would we have won another game ? two games ? Two games puts us alone in second two wins behind Montreal. Maybe it's easier to upgrade goaltending than defense ? Or cheaper. Certainly riskier.

I'm rambling now. I hope to see a goood outing tonight. A lot of pressure on the Canucks - right now they're Vancouver's second favourite team (after the Grizzlies).

Even when Petr was winning I didn't like his overall game, primarily the sloppy rebounds and flopping out of position a bit too much. He still was making some great saves and got us a couple W's we probably shouldn't have gotten.

Neither goalie will ever be mistaken for Price.
That said only Mrazek is good enough to win a playoffs series (assuming the Wings get there) Howard is okay and is playing well right now but at any moment he will let in a wrist shot from the blueline and state afterwards that "nobody in the world could stop that shot". He has reached his peak.
Mrazek is the guy and you look into your minor league system or the draft to get better there.

You can't tell me Sproul and Oulette could possibly play worse than Ericsson and Marchenko. Just brutal every time.

Not sure if you watched the game, but Ericsson was great tonight.

I respectfully disagree. He was stuck in his end with Marchenko most of the game continually chasing and turning the puck over. He managed to finally get a shot on the net that Ott tipped in instead of just throwing it around or turn it over.S Sorry I don't see it.

i thought it was a fairl played game. We gave up many shots but not too many were divine scoring chances.

I've never seen Howard look that good..don't remember. I think he's playing his best games ever....but don't tell him HE IS A BACKUP !!

Must be the new goalie coach.

Question..

What's up with Nielsen ? I though he look good but i presume he is another type of player Blashill doesn't like cause we baraly saw in the second half of the game. Probably not even 15 minute of TOI tonight. I like Nielsen overall game.

Strange... we won but i still don't like the way Blashill handles his team...

Ericsson and Marchenko is a weak paring. Marchenko is taking too many risks offensively and when he does that leaving a pylon defender as you last hope before the netminder. Last night he came in all the way from the point to a rebound about 3 ft in front of the net.

Howard was really impressive, efficient movements, no wasted energy and solid rebound control. He's on his game right now and I'd go with him against Montreal on Saturday again.

Any word on AA's injury other than a lower body injury?

from what i saw it's a knee to knee collision. SHOULDN'T be too severe. But AA has a history of knee injuries so....

That's a big loss especially with Vanek out too, but in remarkable turn of events Detroit just recalled Mantha. And that's with Miller being healthy and Bertuzzi already here.
