Jurco takes a penalty after a couple of decent chances. And I'm mystified how the ref missed the flop by Tampa on that. Jurco clearly touched his hip but her went down like he was shot, and the Tampa bench accused Nyquist of flopping. Disgusting.

Two good teams going at it tonight.
Wings don't look out of place with the top rated Bolts.
Third period will be interesting with a PP for T-bay to start.

Good to have hockey back.

Not missing Babcock and so far the Leafs are the leafs.

2nd goal a thing of beauty.
Great work by the team ending with a perfect pass from Larkin to Zee.
Nice shot in the top corner.
Bishop complaining about nothing.

2-0 Wings with 10 minutes left

All around good game. Didn't like the Lightning goal but too many chances to expect a shutout.

Larkin continues to fit right in.

Richards looking more at home this game.

Nyquist missed two great chances by trying to pass in the slot. This is why he's not with Zetterberg anymore

Though some might say we had the edge since the local team around here played last night but since this was the first time I got to see our current squad I liked what I saw. Especially since it ended in a victory. Too bad Larkin didn't score on that breakaway Z set him up with but he looked good in missing his shot. I like Green there on the defense and I like the looks of the youth of this team. It's obviously waaaaaaaaaaay early but LET'S GO RED WINGS!!

When a coach would rather dress Ferraro to play defense when you could play the same defense and maybe score or throw some hits that he can't do. But hey, he can take this as a sign that he's higher than Anderson on the depth chart, can't he?

Right now Ferraro is more usefull to the team than Jurco, even after today's. Eventually Ferraro weill have more offensive dutie and he might shine, it's all a matter or confidence, right now Ferraro focuses more on playing good D.

a few notes...

Howard was solid. But we played well around him, cutting down on loose pucks in front. We play a tougher game around our net.

Blash stick to his plan. Like playing Glen and Miller on first PK pair then Ferraro and Abby then back to Glen and Miller. He really trust both of them.

On D I thought E had a good game, he was on the ice for critical minutes and did well. Kroner was great

Larkin is a special player. I don't remember another player who after only 3 games look that good. He is intense and plays a good two way game. Z likes the kid.

Under Blash we skate more, moving our feet constantly, if we lose the puck in deep no one gets caught. Since Blash is there our defensive patterns are more simple, get that first pass fast, since the beginning of this year we cut down on turnovers by a great margin.
Discipline in and around the bench is better with Blash, Changes are done safer, shifts are way shorter.

in other words we cut down on bonehead plays, bonehead mistakes. I think this team is more prepare Under Blash than they ever was Under...euh..sorry i don't remember his name.

Now i presume Helmer will be back thursday to replace Mule. Not a bad switch.

Good game overall, very intense. Just imagine when a healthy and motivate Dats return....hummm sounds good !

Nice game against a contender on a back to back. Close game but for a couple of tinks by the Bolts it could have just as easily gone the other way.

Nice hockey play by The Kid to The Old Man, TK went and dug that out and psyched the Bolts before a sweet pass to TOM who finished it nicely. You'll see the C passed from TOM to TK someday.

We seemed to get out of our zone and into their zone a little better than we did in the SCPOs.

No one's said what boo boo Mule had last night we don't need Mule so much any more. The special teams looked solid. And we won at home, which was kind of an issue the past few seasons.

Really like the way we started the season. Looks like the guys are having fun playing for Blashill and that does not prevent them of playing disciplined defensive hockey like they did against Tampa.
Nice to see our dmen clearing the crease with authority and not allowing many rebounds. Turnovers are still there (especially the usual suspects E and Smith), but the team seems to quickly recover after them.
As to individual players:

Howard - very solid, good movement from post to post.
Larkin - I honestly expected to see a solid, but nothing spectacular player. So, far he is exceeding all my expectations and truly a puck magnet. Reminds me of Tatar in the previous 2 season when something always happens when he is on the ice.
Kindl - very sound defensively.
Zetterberg - great start.
Miller - he is just a very important piece of the puzzle.

The only negative for me so far has been Tatar. He's been energizer bunny for this team, probably the most exciting player to watch in the past 2 years for our team. He has been very quiet in the first 3 games for some reason.

Maybe and it's only been 3 games, but if it's game 6 and we still do not see a single great shift from Tatar, I will start worrying. I just got used to something positive happening in 80% of Tatar's shifts.

Good game for the most part. We did get sloppy in our own zone a few times. I thought Howard looked really good as far as positioning and tracking the puck goes. He would have had another shutout if he did the King Henrik and stopped the puck with his head instead of ducking Smiley

I'm REALLY impressed with Larkin's game. At age 19 he is has all of the goods, size, speed, high skill and most importantly he has game IQ. He certainly isn't looking like a rookie teen. He does need to get stronger but that will come as he matures. I hope he can keep pace for the long haul of 82 game NHL season. I believe he will and if he stays healthy he should not see any ice in Grand Rapids Smiley

All last night I was thinking how we're looking pretty darn against a pretty good opponent without a couple key players, a top forward Datsuyk and top D in DeKeyser.

Richards doesn't look as good as he look in the preseason, could be the reason why...Richards is a step behind the other two, maybe not so much yesterday but still. Let's give Richards a few more games before we start panicking...same for Green who isnt great so far.

Right now i'd play Larkin at center with Tats on the second line and give all the PP to the dynamic duo Larks-Z.

Green has a new partner for the first time in his career and it's not the guy he spent training camp with, and Quincey doesn't have the offensive ability that Green is used to working with. Yesterday he really got to display some good defense skills which was pretty great.

Richards looked pretty good yesterday. I'll say I'm not worried because he was brought in for his playoff, not his 30 point, between second and third line duty regular season.

Both new guys need more time. I would like to see Green more involved in offense (he was brought to do just that), but it's still early and maybe DK will help him more than Q does.
As to Richards, I personally did not expect much to begin with. The guy had 35 points last season centering Chicago's very potent second line. The good news he is faster than I thought he would be. The bad news Tatar never really needed a good center to be effective.
