Who would you guys rather see go? Mike Babcock or give KH the option of moving up to VP or fired?

Think about it....Kenny had a lot of success here riding the coat tails of Scotty and star players. Stevie Yzerman bolts because KH didn't want to move up to VP or co-GM. Now we have anther great hockey mind in Babcock who'll leave probably because of bumping heads with KH.

There will be a lot of soul searching for the Detroit Red Wings organization this summer who in my mind accepted a way lowered bar and no longer center of excellence in hockey operations.....we shoot for mediocrity of being one of 16 teams that make the playoffs.

Shawn can i answer your question by a question ?

----who decided to play E on the top D pairing ?...

...KH or Babs ? The one responsible has to go. He doesnt know much about hockey....

----who hate Kindl so much to humiliate him constantly ? ?

...KH or Babs ? The one responsible has to go. He doesnt know much about hockey....

And i believe Babs was responsable for the Zid acquisition. So obviously at times KH listens...

But we manage to be in the playoffs every year. Shouldn't this be enough ?..to at least have a chance to win it all ? Look at Philly, the Sharks, the Leafs, Dallas, the Bruins (who won just 3 years ago !) etc..

What kind of team would you like to root for ? a one hit wonder or a yearly contender ?

Some more food for thoughts...

Now that you mentioned it, on the empty netter goal that clipped Kindl they showed the bench and a not too happy Babcock saying something to Granado, probably blaming him or saying Kindl played his last game as Red Wing Smiley

I want a team that sets the bar higher....the goal is Stanley Cup. Sure making the playoffs 24 years in a row gives you a chance but it seems like the last 5-6 years our goal is just be once of 16 teams that make the playoffs and not having a team that can compete in the playoffs. There are 30 teams in the league..so when 16 make the dance that is where I say mediocrity.

Hockey these days depends on breaks more than ever before. The teams are so close that the games can turn on the smallest things. I know you make your own breaks, but a post, a lucky bounce, a lapse in concentration, a referee's call, can mean the difference between winning a game and a series.

In my view, TB should have won games 1,2 & 6....we should have won games 4,5,6 & 7. Turns out game 4 was a huge swing game. We were in total control, Glendening does a hard, but legal check against Johnson, their guy mugs him, puts him out of the game actually and the referee doesn't give TB the extra penalty. So instead of us being on the PP and that game being out of reach, TB makes a miracle comeback. If Helm takes an extra hard step and cuts Jonhson off, the series is basically over. A break and a couple of mistakes cost us the game and the series.

Plus Abby is basically playing with a broken hand...another bad break. Kronwall gets suspended controversially...another bad break. We didn't get blown out, we didn't get embarrassed and but for another pretty lucky goal last night, we could have won that series. We shut down one of the top 2 goal scorers of the last 5 years and made him look very ordinary. And Tampa Bay has as good a roster as anybody in the east. I know excuses are for losers but gone are the days when you can just blow a team out of the water. Even Anaheim, who swept their series against Winnipeg, could have easily lost 3 of the 4 games.

Going forward our 2 studs up front are past their prime, and we have no studs on defence. But we have a lot of players who are already good that will only get better every year for the next 5 years or so. Plus we have a guy between the pipes who looks like he's the real deal. Last night we had every opportunity to hang our heads and get blown out after blowing 2 glorious opportunities to put the series away. We're missing 2 d-men, our 2 quarterbacks on the powerplay. Then we turn around and play an almost perfect defensive game in the other teams building in front of a bunch of rabid fans. I think going forward we have a lot to look forward to.

Jeez, that non-offsides call was HORRIBLE

Hope that's not a sign of our fate tonight ...

Just finished watching the first period as I wasn't able to see it last night. That was an unbelievably bad call that Stamkos almost turned into a goal and Callahan almost scored right after. How can a linesman miss a gut that far off side, especially when he's right in the middle of the ice. Unbelievable. Plus the whole sequence started when Stamkos obviously tripped Sheahan as he was coming out of the zone. I'm sure glad that didn't lead to the winning goal....I wouldn't have been able to sleep at all.

---Just so you know I am paying attention to your posts, you are referencing game 6 twice.
You probably meant game 3 for the Wings although Tampa had tons of point blank chances there. But we totally controlled the second half of the series. I will still see Helm and Tatar not scoring at the end of the second period yesterday in my nightmares for a long time.

SmileySmiley

Yes 3,4,5 & 7.

I know what you mean about the Helm/Tats thing. On the first one I said earlier that TATS mishandled the puck because Johnson hacked him. I watched it again...and Tats mishandled it on his own, but then Johnson definitely hacked him hard to remove all chance of recovery. It was definitely an obvious penalty. The second one should have been an easy goal...i think Helmer put a little too much mustard on the pass, or Tats was somehow surprised that the pass came. Not sure which but it should have been a tap in goal.

My nighmare moment is still the no call on Stamkos icing just before their goal. I've watched it about 6 times and he was at least 3 feet from hitting centre ice before he shot it in. Those used to be let go but are almost always called in today's NHL.

ReallySmiley I've debunked that non-sense before, Shawn, when "Scout" or "Nick" was around. Don't even go there. Holland assembled ALL of the teams that won the cups. Do some research. I did. Who do you think signed/drafted those "star players?" It was Holland for about 99% of them.
