Getting a third rounder for 13th forward on a last place team is obviously an accomplishment.

Until he gets in the Hawks line-up and starts to play like we all thought he could...

...that wouldn't surprise me.

Right now Jurco is a happy camper.

This overall "management" of Jurco is a total failure by the brass.

Except the Hawks will probably turn him into a 4th line or 3rd line guy that scores 15 goals a year ....

Chicago is a very good team, anybody who goes there could be expected to do well.
I agree though that Jurco could have been given a fair chance. Give him Nyquist role (for example) and he could have scored more goals than Nyquist. I am not even talking about Sheahan.

I hope he does well but I kind of agree with square peg and round hole theory. When skill guys come up we make em grinders and squash creativity. For some reason we still think we a elite team with stacked talent...that just isn't the case. We have more skill riding pines or put in positions where they cannot progress.

Some Juro comments....

the Chicago Sun-Times' Mark Lazerus after practice:

Tomas Jurco came to the NHL as something of a YouTube sensation, with his quick hands and hockey imagination on display in a variety of jaw-dropping highlights from his days in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

But that trick-shot stuff doesn’t always fly in the NHL, and then-Red Wings coach Mike Babcock wanted to see him play a more physical style befitting his 6-1 frame. And Jurco did what he was told. Or, at least, he tried.

“My first year with Babs, if I wanted to stay in the league, I had to do whatever it took to stay in the league,” Jurco said. “[I had] a two-way deal. I had to change my game a little bit. This is the NHL, and you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to stay in the league.”

It never panned out for Jurco in Detroit, a promising rookie season a distant memory as he spent most of this season as a healthy scratch after recovering from offseason back surgery. But as the newest Blackhawks forward — acquired Friday for a third-round draft pick — he’s hoping that skill will be more valued, and that he can bring back some of that offensive flair he showed in juniors.

“It’s been a tough couple of years for me in Detroit,” Jurco said. “This is a fresh start for me, and I’m very excited for it. … I wasn’t progressing in the last year or so, so I think this is a great time to push my game to another level.”

This week alone, Sidney Crosby has chopped a player down in the dumick in a targeted attack to cause a turnover and chopped off a finger to do the same.

There is zero acknowledgement from the NHL that he has done anything yet a no name guy in Buffalo gets suspended today for "interference" on a hit that was nothing but hitting a guy with his head down which is a hockey play.

Why would the NHL, still low tier ratings wise, be this willing to let the guy they want to build their brand around continue with clear intent to injure behavior? Are they waiting for somebody to do the noble thing for the sake of the other players and just end his career?

He's baaaaaaackkkk ...

Was thinking the same thing, these "Crosby rules" need to go. He's in essence a repeat offender but never gets called.

If that situation was reversed, you can bet that the offending player would be suspended. I don't care if he's the (fuck) face of the league or whatever... he deserves a sit-down.

btw= kid87 is one bad hit from being done... shit like this could encourage such a hit. IMO of course Smiley

They were determined to win him a Cup in 2009. They manipulated the schedule to give the Pens every advantage.

It really is only a matter of time before somebody, anybody, takes a shot at Crosby. It was a PR disaster for the league when Crosby had consecutive hits land him on IR with a concussion and neck problems for almost a year. It's going to be worse. New NHL or not, it's still hockey and players still retaliate. When your league cherry picks discipline by star status, you're just setting up for the players to take care of things. Across the sports, players eventually police themselves.

It also wouldn't be unprecedented for player safety to respond now. They did it to Pronger after a stomp on ice when fans and the other owners pointed out they just suspended Chris Simon out of the league for the same.
