Just one thought about all the colour commentators for NBC, TSN, Sportsnet and just about anywhere else.

Why is it that all these guys are former goons or 3rd and 5th liners and some goalies.

Mike Milbury,Barry Melrose, Aaron Ward, (former flyer on NBC), Ed Olschuk (sp?), and the list goes on and on.
None of these guys can relate to Dats or Zee,

Oh...what a great play by Boland...of they say things like that....that's all they know.
I would take a Dennis Savard (former Hawk) to make comments as he can appreciate what Dats and others bring to the game.

KWilson, imo it was an absolutely even played game for all 63 minutes. Except maybe for most of the third period, we were a lot better, just could not finish the chances. Emmerton had 2 glorious chances yesterday, all alone and I thought I could have get a better shot and I never played hockey in my life. Our PP was pretty good also (why it took so long to change the PP format?). Crawford's rebound control was awful all game long. We were so close...

Roenick was a first line guy, but he definitely has a 4th line mentality and says a bunch of stupid things as well. I think Pavel and Z are getting more respect than they used to, but I'm sick of watching the games on a National Broadcast and hearing the commentators blatantly cheer for the other team. It's been going on for years and I don't get it. For the last 10 years or so the Red Wings have always been a composed team that don't get involved in all the other crap that just about every other team does, and yet the commentators appear to have an obvious bias against them. Even when they played despicable, dirty teams like the 2007 Ducks, and the whining Penguins. In the old days we had a few boys that are hard to like if you're cheering for the opposition, like Konstantinov and Chelios. But how can you poosibly hate guys like Lidstrom & Datsyuk and Zetterberg, guys that play hard, never complain and go about their business. Out of the teams that are left, I guess I'm going to pull for Chicago, but it's hard to root for a team that has guys like Shaw & Bickell and Bolland. Even Toews, a player I've always admired, acted like a spoiled brat for much of the series and Duncan Keith, a great player, does things out there from time to time that make me despise him. i guess the closest thing we have on our team to being a cheap shot, over the edge player, is Abby....but he doesn't come close to the first 3 I mentioned from Chicago. And don't get me started on Pittsburgh and Boston.

Any word on Flip's 'injury'? That was key. That and Shaw doesn't get anything because no blood was drawn, but he was clearly hovering around the Wing bench looking to instigate and came away with a 'win'.

Do you guys remember the Wings go ahead goal in game 6? Absolute silence from the announcers. Like they were so crestfallen they couldn't even speak. Then all the blubbering after the Hawks score the OT winner in game 7.

I actually see it a little different. Emrick is equally "excited" no matter who scores. Pierre actually progressed in my eyes and actually contributes some good analysis and I actually thought he was fair. I like to hear him to point out to the adjustment Babcock made on our PK in game 7. Olczyk analyses the game as a fan of the Hawks, not as an impartial analyst. Listening to him one might think that Chicago players are making a great play on pretty much every shift. He cannot contain his negativity when Detroit scores and his orgasm when Chicago scores. As to actual analysis, he does not bring anything to the table.

Agree on Doc and EddieO. Eddie's so biased he doesn't even realize how one sided he is.

Watch it again guys. After the game 6 Wings go ahead goal - dead silence from the announcers. If you were like me, you were probably too busy jumping around the room pumping your fists in the air to notice. Smiley Smiley

But I'm tellin' ya, the silence was deafening. I was rather shocked. But at the moment too giddy to care.

I expect that sort of thing out of Eddie O. I don't think anybody takes what he says seriously. I usually watch the playoff games on the CBC and it really bugs me when the colour guys are biased. Bob Cole isn't bad one way or the other. He changes his mind on every shift as to who is taking over the game. But Gary Galley was definitely pro Hawk the whole series and he was really getting on my nerves.

Bt the way, I was talking to a good friend of mine tonight that I haven't talked to in a while. He used to be a Hawk fan when he was a kid, changed to a rabid Blues fan when the Hawks let Glenn Hall go. He tells me now that he's older he's become a Leaf fan because he watches the game with his kids, who are Leaf fans. I say this because I want to point out that he's a pretty neutral observer. He said after watching the series he's convinced that Datsyuk is the best player in the league, and was virtually hooked or held on every shift that he plays. His observation was that it rarely gets called because he's so good and that he never embellishes. It's nice that a non Red Wing fan notices these things. I agree with him. There were so many little hooks and holds and hacks against Datsyuk the whole series that didn't get called because he fights through it without complaint.

First, I am really proud of this team. Anyone who professes to know hockey who cannot see beyond this series outcome and calling it a loss, is not knowing anything hockey. Fortunately the majority of us on this board see thebright future ahead.

Typical us to play with injuries and not publicize it, probably first for their own protection i.e. Pronger and Stevie's legs, and secondly because we sre not whiners.

Watching Chicago game the other night, the Black Hawks were truly worried. They and their crowd had fear written all over the place.

I also like Doc, his excitement and his words are terrific, fast and full of emotion. I do not understand how some of the announcers for the national games think that they themselves are anything but biased. I tell you what I think, which is not worth much. The Red Wings are for the most part lifers,
too much European influence, not North American, it is tough to see your students out pace tghe teachers. Oh and most of those announcers were not good enough or wanted by the Wings. How it must get in the craw of those guys that Draper and Maltby, grinders for crying out loud, have 4 Stanley Cups, jobs with the Wings and are celebrated legends
on that 90's team. That Kocur and Murphy cam out of retirement, playing in beer leagues, and got their names on the Stanley Cup. That we dared to bring out and put on the ice at the same time 5 Russians less than 20 years after Russia beat the Canadians. How they must hate that our goalies were the best kind, journeymen, who cared more for the team than many of the others. How it bothers them that this bunch of hockey players through the years are essentially the same kind of player, team players, who are well spoken, stoic
young men who grow old with this club and even when they were injured, and retired.

And probably most of all they hate that we are not ever down and out.

These announcers have a loyalty that goes (for the most part) only through their next paycheck. You cn see the difference when you listen to the comments by many on the NHL network. They have respect for the Wings.

Of course this is from my perspective, and I am somewhat of a cheerleader as you know. But I still olove the Wings....can't wait until next year.

Can I stroll down memory lane for a minute? Jarvis (from Guelph Ontario) mentioned a guy who is currently on NBC and referred to him as a former Flyer. I think the guy he is referring to is Keith Jones who played in Washington, then in Colorado on Joe Sakic's line, then in Philadelphia on Eric Lindros's line. He lived a very charmed life in the NHL by his own admission. He actually never played above Junior "C" and parlayed that into a hockey scholarship in the States. Anyway, I used to work in Guelph (where Jarvis is from) and one of my good buddies there played with "Jonesy" in Paris, Ont. and counted him as a good buddy. He told me a great story that he heard first hand from Jones, who played for Colorado the year Darren McCarty pounded the crap out of Claude Lemieux in 1997. Apparently after the game, Lemieux was crying in the changeroom and lamenting the fact that nobody came to his rescue. Somebody piped up "if you had stood up to McCarty and he started to thump you, then we would have come to your rescue...but when you turtle like you did, then you take what's coming to you". Sounds like some of Claude's teammates thought as much of him as we did.
